Kingsbury names George Wetherbee as a member of the Hampden Colony that settled in Coffey County on 30 April 1855. His brief historical account is published in an 1878 Coffey County Atlas. The Coffey County marriage index records George's marriage to (Barbara) Jane Bates on March 21, 1861. The Bates Family and the Wetherbee Family were listed fairly close in proximity in the 1860 Burlington Township, Coffey County, Kansas Territory census. George and his wife were listed together in the 1865 state census and the 1870 federal census. Several census reports have inaccurate ages for George. By 1875, George was recorded with his father and three children, but without Jane. George's chidren from his marriage to Barbara Jane Bates, all born in Kansas, were listed in 1875 as Mary E., 12; Samuel, 10; & Oscar B., 3. George remarried before 1880 to Elnora Neff, a neighbor. They were listed on the 1880 census with Nellie N., age 2. E. Wetherbee, a female, age 27, was listed as a widow on the 1885 Hampden, Coffey, Kansas State census. She was listed with "Nev," [Nellie Nevada] age 7; "Geo.," [Georgia] age 1; & Samuel, age 20, [her step-son.] Mary E. Wetherbee married George F. Williams 1 Oct 1882. (Coffey County, Kansas Marriage Index) Oscar Wetherbee was living with his sister in 1885, next to their maternal grandmother, Mary Bates. In 1895, Nellie and her husband, Peter Saling, were recorded with Georgia A. Wetherbee, age 11. The 1900 census lists Georgia A. Weatherbee, age 16, as a sister-in-law of Peter Saling, living with Peter & Nellie Saling and their children. Elnora Wetherbee has not been found in the census reports after 1885. George & Elnora's daugher, Georgia A., first married Fred C. Ramey and then George Trilck. Her grave has been entered as #77664669, in Tulsa.
