Description	:	George E. Ford, Sr., 95, former resident of St. Lawrence, died Monday, November 5, 1984 at the Prairie Good Samaritan Center, Miller. He was born September 12, 1889 on a farm one mile north of Central City, Iowa in Jackson Township, the son of Oscar and Bell (Oakley) Ford. He attended the first eight grades of school in Linn County, Iowa. He moved with his parents to a farm in Pearl Township, Hand County in 1906. Ford, Sr., 95, former resident of St. Lawrence, died Monday, November 5, 1984 at the Prairie Good Samaritan Center, Miller. He was born September 12, 1889 on a farm one mile north of Central City, Iowa in Jackson Township, the son of Oscar and Bell (Oakley) Ford. He attended the first eight grades of school in Linn County, Iowa. He moved with his parents to a farm in Pearl Township, Hand County in 1906. He was the first government appointed mail carrier in 1909 from St. Lawrence. He also worked as a brakeman for Chicago North Western Railroad. He married Elsie Belle Thompson, June 18, 1913 at the Presbyterian Parsonage in Miller. He was a barber with Clint Cole in the St. Lawrence Barber Shop in 1913. He returned to farming in Pearl and St. Lawrence Townships until 1944, when he retired and moved into town. He was a member of the St. Lawrence Community Church and the St. Lawrence Odd Fellows. Survivors include his wife, Elsie, Miller; three daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Verlyn) Hurd, Buena Park, California, Mrs. Leonard (Zona) Verdugt and Mrs. Ogee (Phyllis) Johnson, both of St. Lawrence; one son, George Ford, Jr., St. Lawrence; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Mason Ford; three sisters, Sadie Cleveland, Lefa Harris and Iva Rineer; one grandson and one great-grandson. The funeral was at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 8, 1984, at the St. Lawrence Community Church with the Rev. Richard Ransom officiating. Burial was in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandson, Larry and Lyle Ford, Ross and Wendell Johnson, and great-grandsons, Dean Lockner and Dustin Hass. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918 provided middle name and place of birth.
