Funeral services for him were held on Thursday, March 15, 1990 at 2:00 p.m. at The Rhoad Funeral Home Chapel in Sargent, Nebraska, his former residence, with the Rev. Steven Flader of Sargent, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was made in the nearby rural Mount Hope Cemetery by the side of his late wife Bessie, in rural Custer County, Nebraska northwest of Sargent. Visitation was Monday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings, Nebraska, and further visitations on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until the services at Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent, Donal and Dorothy Rhoads, owners. Memorial are suggested to the choice of each family. George E. Dye was born on November 23, 1897 in Sargent, in Custer County, Nebraska to Perry Dye and Della (nee Arnold) Dye. He married to Bessie Shell on February 7, 1923. They lived on various farms in and around the Sargent and Broken Bow, Nebraska area. Mrs. Bessie Dye his wife died on February 12, 1989 about 13 months ago. Mr. Dye was preceded in death by his parents and also by three sisters and by one brother. He is survived by his three sons, Arthur Dye now of Hastings, Nebraska, and Lloyd Dye of Broken Bow, Nebraska where he and his wife Peg ( Schmid) Dye, own and operate the Bow Bakery, and Howard Dye now of Omaha, Nebraska and their families and also by eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and by two great-great-grandchildren; and by his three sisters, Mrs. Russell (Ruby Dye) Blair and Zelma Swanson of Kennewick, Washington and Mrs. Harold (Maxine Dye) Dunbar of Lincoln, Nebraska, and also by two brothers, Merle Dye of Bassett, Nebraska and Eugene Dye of Denver, Colorado, many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. (Odd Fellows) Lodge in Sargent. Casket-bearers were members of the I.O.O.F. Lodge of Sargent. Honorary casket-bearers were Alan, Steve, Randy and David Dye, Steve Anderson, Steve Derby, Roger Badberg and Rod Sheperd. Rev. Wayne and wife Jame Hasselquist sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden" and Nancy Seidel was organist for the services.
