He was Gerhard Fokken [George OR George FOKKEN] of the Davis vicinity. Funeral services were held last Friday from the Davis Reformed church, the Rev. Ralph Cordes officiating. He was Gerhard Fokken [George OR George FOKKEN] of the Davis vicinity. Funeral services were held last Friday from the Davis Reformed church, the Rev. Ralph Cordes officiating. Mr. Fokken was born on July 3, 1865, at Hardin City, Iowa. His father took the family from Hardin county to Grundy and later to Plymouth county. On February 24, 1892, he was united in marriage to Fannie Bultena. They resided on a farm in Plymouth county, Iowa until the spring of 1898 when be brought his family to Turner county, to a farm north of Chancellor. The deceased retired from active participation in farm work 10 years ago, but retained his interest in farming and other affairs. On June 24 he became seriously ill. In spite of medical treatment and tender care, his condition became more serious . He passed away at the age of 86 years and 14 days. Mr. Fokken was a member of the Germantown Presbyterian church for many years and served as trustee. When the family moved to the Davis vicinity they made Bethel Reformed their church home and became members in 1947. Left to mourn his departure are his wife and seven children. They are Anna, (Mrs. R. E. Niebruegge) Willow Lake; Mae, (Mrs. F. C. Hammon [HAMMAN], Moorhead, Iowa; John, at home; Floyd, of Sioux Falls; Minnie, (Mrs. F. Thorn), George, Iowa; Alvin e [Alvina](Mrs. A. Plucker), Castle wood; and Marvin of Davis. Also 27 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Grothouse, Remsen, Iowa, and many other relatives and friends.
