Description	:	Times Herald, Carroll, Iowa Saturday, March 11, 1944 Funeral rites were held at the Huffman Funeral Home at 2:30 yesterday afternoon for George F. Guy, well-known pioneer resident, who passed away Wednesday morning after an eight weeks' illness. The Rev. Floyd A. Smith, pastor of the Denison Methodist church and brother of Mr. Guy's daughter-in-law, Mrs. J. Clifford Guy, officiated at the rites. Mrs. Roymayne E. Huffman sany "Going Down the Valley One by One" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," accompanied by Mrs. Earl Gary. Burial was beside his wife in the famiy lot in the Carroll cemetery and pallbearers were J. W. Heider, Martin Emmick, E. A. Blake, Eilert Wessels, R. M. Mohen and C. C. Basler. Out-of-town relatives and friends at the services, additinal to the Rev. and Mrs. Smith, included Bruce G. Barber of Grand Mound, Mrs. G. N. Young of Woodbine and Mr. and Mrs. G. N. Coulter of Coon Rapids. There were also many friends from Templeton and vicinity. -------------------------------------------- George was the son of John and Susan Taylor Guy, natives of Cornwall county, England, who came to America about 1851, locating at Warren, Mass. where George was born. The family come to Iowa about 1865 and settled in Clinton county, then six years later they moved to Eden Township, Carroll county, Iowa. He was a brother of Taylor, William, and Belinda (Mrs. George Wallace Barber). On Nov. 4, 1877, George was united in marriage to Elvaretta Hart in Eden township and they made their home on a farm near Templeton, Iowa. In 1905, they retired and moved to Carroll, locating in the former Flynn property on east Fifth street where they lived for six years and then bought the Taylor Guy home on North Main street. Two children were born to George and Etta; J. C. Guy of Woodbine and Mrs. C. E. (Ione) Ellsworth of Carroll.
