He was employed as a packer for Harper & McIntire Wholesale Hardware Co. here for 43 years prior to his retirement in 1958. The son of James A. and Nora R. Derry Miers, he was born in Marion Co., on Nov. 23, 1891, and had resided in Ottumwa since 1920. He was a graduate of the Knoxville High School in 1910. He marriage to Mary M. Griffioen took place in Ottumwa on Feb. 7, 1917. She survives. Mr. Miers was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church. Survivors in addition to his widow and son, Ancill, include a grandson, Dennis Ross Miers of New Orleans; two stepgrandsons, Larry Thompson of Cedar Rapids and Scott Thompson of New Orleans; and three step-great-grandsons. The body was returned to the Johnson Funeral Chapel here, where the service will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Wallace Russell, pastor of Plymouth Congregational Church, and the Rev. T.R. Crown, pastor of the Free Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
