OBITUARY: George G. Hansen George G. Hansen was born March 10, 1892 on a farm near Hampton, Nebraska the son of Louis H. Hansen and Maria Frank Hansen. He received his early schooling in Rural District No. 8 and later graduated from York College Academy. Hansen George G. Hansen was born March 10, 1892 on a farm near Hampton, Nebraska the son of Louis H. Hansen and Maria Frank Hansen. He received his early schooling in Rural District No. 8 and later graduated from York College Academy. He went from there to Kearney State Formal for two years and finished his education at the University of Nebraska where he obtained A.B.A.M. and Ph. D. degrees. He did graduated work at Colorado, Minnesota, Michigan and Chicago Universities. Along the way his educational work like many others was interrupted by service in the Chemical Warfare Service during World War I. His first teaching assignment was at Hayes County High School at Hayes Center, Nebraska as coach and principal, from there he went to Franklin, Nebraska, as coach and science instructor. Then he served as Superintendent of Schools at Shelton, Nebraska, at Hartford, South Dakota, Battle Creek, Nebraska, Stanton, Nebraska and Huntley Project, Montana. After retiring he served as County Superintendent of Hamilton County Schools. Dr. Hansen was instrumental in getting school building programs in five different communities. On August 11, 1920 he married Esther Holm of Elba, Nebraska, who preceded him in death on July 28, 1974. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Kronborg, Nebraska. He was affiliated with the Masonic Lodge in Hampton, Nebraska, Knights Templar, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Eastern Star, Aurora, Nebraska and Shriners in Hastings, Nebraska. He was a member of the American Legion, World War I Barracks 2033 and served fifteen years as secretary of the Aurora Lions Club. He served as treasurer, secretary, vice-president and president of District No. 3 of Nebraska State Education Association. Served three years on the State Education Executive Committee. He was a life member of the National Education Association, held membership in the Phi Delta Kappa, a national school Man's Fraternity, was listed in the Who's Who in American Education, Men of Science, and Who's Who in the Mid West. Dr. Hansen wrote many articles in favor of state aid to education and broadened tax base. He is survived by one daughter Shirley M. Majors of Ericson, Nebraska, one grandson Thomas J. Majors of Arvada, Colorado and one great-grandson Travis. Brother, Herluf of Aurora; sister, Yrsa Hansen of Aurora. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Esther; 4 brothers, Bernhardt, Walter, Vernor and Harold; sisters, Thyra Feddersen, Rigmore Nielsen, Agnes Dyer and one infant sister.
