Muldrow, the subject of this notice, was born in Washington county, Kentucky, on what was then, and is now known as Muldrow's Hill, near Lebanon, on the 24th day of January 1816, and died within one and a half miles of this city, on the 10th day of March, 1893, aged 77 years, 1 month and 16 days. Muldrow, the subject of this notice, was born in Washington county, Kentucky, on what was then, and is now known as Muldrow's Hill, near Lebanon, on the 24th day of January 1816, and died within one and a half miles of this city, on the 10th day of March, 1893, aged 77 years, 1 month and 16 days. He came to Missouri with his father and mother in 1822, where he has resided ever since. On Dec. 20th, 1835, at Warren, in Marion county, he was married to Miss Eliza McElroy, who died in this city on the 10th day of May 1871. Unto then were born five children, four girls and one boy, only two of whom remain, (A. W. Muldrow and Mrs. Maggie E. Brown, the wife of H. H. Brown of this county,) to mourn the loss of their father. He resided in Marion county for some time after his marriage and then removed to Ralls, where he lived until the spring of 1865 when he with his family cane to this county, where he has lived until the time of his decease. In 1858 he was elected sheriff and collector of Ralls county, and re-elected in 1860, thus holding the office four years. The duties of this office he discharged faithfully and honestly, and with that conscientious conception of his duty to the public that should characterize the acts of every man whom the people may elevate to official position. In politics, down to the close of his term of office in Ralls county, he was a Whig, but just about that time the war came on, he espoused the cause that ended in "The Lost Cause," and has ever since been a Democrat. For many, many long years he has been a member of the Masonic fraternity and whenever occasion demanded, or the charities of this institution were involved, he never failed to respond with that liberality which marks the best men of the society. "Uncle George," (for nearly every one saluted him by this familiar and affectionate title,) joined the Presbyterian church at the age of twenty years, or away back in the thirties. His walk all along through these long years was that of a pious Christian man. No man ever heard of him seeking to take any advantage of any one or deviating from the path of duty and rectitude. Benevolent and virtuous, and patient and honest, he illustrated in his daily walk a wonderful faith in the Great Teacher of the christian religion, whose cause he so many years ago espoused. The writer hereof has known him intimately for more than a quarter of a century, and cannot refrain from saying here that the longer we knew him the more respect and affection we had for him. A good man has gone, and many of us who survive him would do well to emulate his example. He was laid to rest in the Odd Fellow cemetery in this city, on last Saturday afternoon by his brethren of the Masonic order, after short services at the Presbyterian church conducted by the Rev. J. S. Todd. Let us, his neighbors, tender to his bereaved children and grand-children our sincerest sympathy and condolence. J. C. H.
