Description	:	George Hall (no middle name) was born April 5, 1849 in Leicester, St. Margarets Parish, Leicestershire, England. He was the youngest child of three of John Hall (1810-1852), a railway builder, and Mary (Spencer) Hall (1820-1898). His father sadly died of heart disease when he was 3 years old. Read More	George Hall (no middle name) was born April 5, 1849 in Leicester, St. Margarets Parish, Leicestershire, England. He was the youngest child of three of John Hall (1810-1852), a railway builder, and Mary (Spencer) Hall (1820-1898). His father sadly died of heart disease when he was 3 years old. With an inheritance his mother received from the estate her father, who had been a city toll gate keeper, the family lived a modest life in Leicester. George received a good education, and worked for a few years in the knitting mills. When he was 24 years old, George emigrated from England to the United States. He sailed on the ship R.M.S Batavia - powered by steam and sails - on 29 September 1873, arriving at Castle Garden in New York City. George first settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he married on 20 May 1875, to Catherine Moore (1851-1891), a native of Ireland. They soon had two children born there, George Spencer and Mary Catherine. The couple had 7 more children as they picked up and resettled across America: Lois Estella "Essie", Joseph Meer, and Earl Leicester born in Bucyrus, Ohio; Alwyn 'Cyril' and Adeline May born in Thomas County, Kansas; and twin girls, Viola "Rettie" and Victoria Guelph "Mickie" born in Falls City, Oregon. Catherine Hall, his wife, died of pneumonia in 1891, at age 39, near Falls City, leaving George a widower with a large family. He and his family soon moved to Washinton state, first to Walla Walla, then to Mabton. George resided in the Yakima Valley the rest of his life, and remained close to his daughter Essie, and to his son Earl, who built a large 1,000 acre wheat ranch in the Glade District, south of Mabton. George died 29 February 1928, at age 78, in Mabton, and is interred in Prosser, Washington at Prosser Pioneer Cemetery (formerly known as I.O.O.F. Cemetery). Note: Photos of George Hall and his son Earl Hall farming the land in Yakima County, and a small, personal English knitting machine that once belonged to George, were donated to the Yakima Valley Museum in Yakima, Washington.
