Description	:	George Harvey Shoop, 95, long time resident of Belle Fourche, SD passed away peacefully, Thursday May 3, 2018 in Tuscon, AZ. George was born September 17, 1922 in Lemmon, SD to George and Ada (Olson) Shoop. George lived in and around the Belle Fourche area most of his life. He graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1941. He worked as a sheep herder and also at the brick yard. Read More	George Harvey Shoop, 95, long time resident of Belle Fourche, SD passed away peacefully, Thursday May 3, 2018 in Tuscon, AZ. George was born September 17, 1922 in Lemmon, SD to George and Ada (Olson) Shoop. George lived in and around the Belle Fourche area most of his life. He graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1941. He worked as a sheep herder and also at the brick yard. He went into the restaurant business with his father for a short time, before taking a job at the IMC bentonite plant. He worked there for 37 years and held many positions in the plant, from bagger to driller to lab technician. On January 23 1945 George married Iola Phillips. To this union they had a daughter, born July 12, 1947. George was known for his large gardens that he shared with others and his walking and biking around town. In September 2017 George went on the adventure of his life; he moved to Tucson, Arizona to live with his daughter and escape his last cold winter. He enjoyed the sunshine and continued walking around the community. He is survived by his daughter, grandson, granddaughters, and a sister In law and nieces and nephews. He met his loved ones at the gates of heaven and is rejoicing with them; wife, Iola; mother and father, Ada and George Shoop; brothers, Dallas Shoop, Ernie Shoop, and Darwin Gene Shoop. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Belle Fourche or the Senior Citizens Center in Belle Fourche. A Celebration of Life was held Sunday, June 10th at 2:00 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Belle Fourche. Inurnment followed at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche.
