Description	:	Billings Gazette (MT), 27 Mar 1975 George Hatfield, 80, died at the Sheridan Memorial Hospital in Plentywood. He was born near Knoxville, Tennessee, Sept. 12, 1894, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Hatfield. In 1906 the family moved away from the Hatfield-McCoy feud, settled near Culbertson and later on a farm near Homestead. George lived with his father as they moved into what was to become Daniels County and then homesteaded near Navajo. He enlisted in the Marines and served in the Pacific prior to WWI. He was born near Knoxville, Tennessee, Sept. 12, 1894, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Hatfield. In 1906 the family moved away from the Hatfield-McCoy feud, settled near Culbertson and later on a farm near Homestead. George lived with his father as they moved into what was to become Daniels County and then homesteaded near Navajo. He enlisted in the Marines and served in the Pacific prior to WWI. In 1917 he returned to Tennessee and on March 19, 1917, married Lavaea Fritts. Since then they have lived on the farm near Navajo except for short periods in Kansas and Missouri. For the past two years they have spent the winters in Pioneer Manor in Plentywood. Besides his farming activities, George worked for the Great Northern Railroad and was in demand as a fiddler for local dances and other social events. Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Frances Haugen of Ryder, N. Dak., and Mrs. Carrie Lou Lossing of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; two brothers, Jim of Medicine Lake, and Joe of Lebanon, Ore.; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel McIntyre of San Francisco, Calif., and Mrs. Harriet Cook of Flaxville. Services at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel in Plentywood. Burial in Flaxville cemetery.
