Description	:	George Reid was the fourth child of John Reid and Margaret Henderson of Mono. He was a resident of Mono, living on the old homestead near Orangeville until his death. He was educated in Orangeville and Mount Forest High Schools. He was keenly interested in all kinds of sports, and played on the Dufferin lacrosse team in its early days. Read More	George Reid was the fourth child of John Reid and Margaret Henderson of Mono. He was a resident of Mono, living on the old homestead near Orangeville until his death. He was educated in Orangeville and Mount Forest High Schools. He was keenly interested in all kinds of sports, and played on the Dufferin lacrosse team in its early days. He was an enthusiastic lover of horses and a great hunter. In 1898, he went to the Klondike in search of Gold. The Grand Valley Vidette newspaper ran an article on October 25, 1900 - "George Reid, of Mono, has returned home after spending a couple of years in the Klondike. It is said that he brought home a considerable quantity of "dust"." Besides working on his farm, George was interested in inventions and invented a set of tractor wheels which he had been manufacturing in Orangeville. It was while preparing to demonstrate these wheels at the recent plowing match in Richmond Hill that he contracted the illness from which he died. George's niece Bess Marshall wrote in her book Through The Beaver Meadow; Reid History 1778 - 1982, "George had just invented a mechanical track for a tractor wheel, to facilitate travelling through mud. He was demonstrating it at Richmond Hill Fall Fair. In order to safeguard his patent, he remained with the tractor through the night, during a cold, fall rain. He developed pneumonia and died at the home of his sister, Minerva. The certificate of death reads, "cerebral haemorrhage", October 24, 1927 and was signed by Dr. A.H. Perfect, 201 Annette Street, Toronto. He is buried at Mono College Cemetery." He died at the home of of his sister, Dr. Minerva E. Reid, at 125 Annette Street, Toronto, on October 24th and is buried in Mono College Cemetery.
