Mr. Nagengast was born May 28, 1876, in Howells, Neb., the son of George H. and Marie Bursch Nagengast. He married Josephine Bogner in 1899 at Howells. To this union were born 12 children, two died in infancy, and two sons preceded him in death, Leonard over Germany in World War II and Clem in 1963. He came to this county from Idaho in 1912 and moved his family here in July 1913, homesteading in the Elim district. His first wife passed away in 1930. Mr. Nagengast continued to farm until his retirement in 1947 and he had been a resident of Fort Benton in recent years. He was married to Rose Molnar Oct. 1, 1940, and to this union were born two daughters. Mr. Nagengast is survived by his wife, Rose; three sons, George A. Nagengast, of Copper Center, Alaska; Christopher W. and Martin J. Nagengast, of Fort Benton; seven daughters, Mrs. Veronica Frieling, Mrs. Rose Pugh, and Mrs. Isabel Streit, of Fort Benton; Mrs. Bertha Johnson and Mrs. Henrietta Quinlan, of Great Falls; Barbara Nagengast, Hood River, Ore.; and Rose Marie Nagengast, of Silver Springs, Maryland; two sisters, Mrs. Theresa Zavidil, of Long Beach, Calif.; and Mrs. Johanna Zerloin, of Humphrey, Neb; 49 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, and a host of friends. In his earlier days he was a great sportsman and loved to hunt and fish, which he continued to do until he was well into his 80s, when his health curtailed such activities. He was in failing health and in the hospital for about a year.
