Description	:	George Henry Vogt, 84, of Grand Island, died Thursday, November 17, 2005 at St. Francis Medical Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 22, at Kleine Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dan Floyd officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Valley View Cemetery, Genoa, NE. Visitation will be 3 8 p.m., Monday at Kleine Funeral Home with the family receiving friends throughout the afternoon and evening. George was born on a farm near Chapman, NE, June 17, 1921 to Henry and Laura (Beberniss) Vogt. He grew up and attended many country schools, graduating from the 8th grade in 1934 from Shoemaker Country School. In 1942, at the age of 21, he entered the U.S. Army at Ft. Crook, NE. He served in WWII with the 112 Calvary Co., K-172nd Infantry Regiment, and Military Squad Leader SSN 605. George was stationed at Ft. Riley KS for 6 months and then was sent over seas. He served in the South Pacific, Bismarck, New Guinea, New Britton, the Philippines, and Japan without receiving a leave until he was given an honorable discharge in 1945 as a Sergeant at Ft. Logan, CO. He received other citations such as Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, the Bronze Star, and a Good Conduct Medal. In 1947 George married Gladys Boroff and to this union one son was born, Gary Lee Vogt. In 1955 he married Alice Harry of Chapman and to his union two daughters were born. In 1970 he married Gladys Smolinski of Fullerton, NE. George worked for Diamond Engineering Co. for 11 years and then worked for Hoppe Redi-Mix, where he worked for 25 years. He loved horses and in 1976, he and his wife bought an acreage in St. Libory, NE, where he could raise and train them. In 1983, they moved back to Grand Island and George worked for Mid Plains, retiring in 1986 due to failing health. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the V.F.W. Survivors include his wife, Gladys, one son: Gary Lee Vogt of Grand Island, one daughter: Debbie (Vogt) Archbold of Omaha, and one stepson: Larry Somlinski of Grand Island, five grand children, numerous step-grandchildren and great- step-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter: Sheila Vogt, three sisters: Louise Wiegert, Edna Thesenvitz, and Gladys Lempheir, all of Grand Island, one brother: Edward Vogt, and one stepdaughter: Marcia Shoemaker.
