Description	:	The River Press, Fort Benton, Mont., 29 Jan 1941 George Herbert LaVanway, aged resident of the Square Butte section, passed away in the St. Clare hospital in this city at 11:15 p.m. on last Wednesday. Mr. LaVanway was brought to the local hospital three or four days before his death suffering from pneumonia, and due to his advanced age of nearly 83, failed to respond to treatment. Read More	The River Press, Fort Benton, Mont., 29 Jan 1941 George Herbert LaVanway, aged resident of the Square Butte section, passed away in the St. Clare hospital in this city at 11:15 p.m. on last Wednesday. Mr. LaVanway was brought to the local hospital three or four days before his death suffering from pneumonia, and due to his advanced age of nearly 83, failed to respond to treatment. He was taken sick about a week ago. Mr. LaVanway was born in Bristol, Iowa, on March 10, 1858, and spent many years in that state, later going to South Dakota, and then coming to Montana and Square Butte in 1910, where he took up land. He engaged in farming and also followed his trade as carpenter for many years. He was united in marriage to Harriett Platts in 1880 at Hillsdale, S. D., the wife passing away on Jan. 1, 1922. Mr. LaVanway was well and favorably known in the Geraldine and Square Butte sections and his passing will be mourned by all. He is survived by the following children, Mrs. George Todd, Lewistown; Ben LaVanway, Square Butte; Edson H. LaVanway, Geraldine; Mrs. Bessie Sherman, Great Falls; Mrs. J. T. Kynett, Square Butte. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Frank, Gilman, Wis.; Silas, Stigley, Okla.; Stanley, Square Butte; Mrs. Bertha Bidwell and Mrs. Laura Graves, Shafter, Calif.; and by other relatives and many friends. The body was taken from Louther Mortuary to Geraldine Monday afternoon where services were held from the church in that city. Burial was made in Square Butte Cemetery. The relatives have the sympathy of all in their bereavement.
