From page 1 of the June 1, 1905 Skidmore, Missouri New Era: "George Irving Riley was born in New York City, March 12, 1853, and died at his home in Atchison county, Missouri, May 23, 1905, aged 52 years, 2 months and 11 days. He left New York City when young, going with his parents to Decatur, Illinois, where he resided until 1880. He then moved to Webb City, Missouri, and in the following year was married to Elizabeth Parkes. Of this union were born five children, Claude, Clara, Martin, George and Guy, who died in infancy. He was also a loving father to his two step children, Daisy and Della Parks, who with his three brothers, two sisters, a wife and four children and several grand children mourn his death. He was a man respected by all that knew him. His place in the community is sadly missed. One of those men whose uprightness and strength of character it would be well for us to pattern. Funeral services were held at Burr Oak Church, Wednesday evening, at 3 o'clock conducted by Rev. Reuben Barrett. A large concourse of neighbors and friends followed him to his last resting place in the Burr Oak Cemetery."
