The community of Hemford was saddened on Thursday, July 29, to hear of the passing of George Crouse, in the early hours of the morning at the home of his daugher, Mrs. D.A. Parnell, of New Germany. In failing health for the past eighteen months, in March of this year, Mr. and Mrs. Crouse moved to New Germany, where he was tenderly cared for by his wife and daughter, until his death, borne with Christian cheerfulness and patience. Born in Hemford, 64 years ago, he was a son of the late Ishmeal and Rose (Wile) Crouse, and lived his entire life here, where he was a well respected citizen and kindly neighbour. Left to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father are his wife, (formerly Violet Veinot), one daughter, Kathleen ,Mrs. D.A. Parnell, New Germany; one brother, Locke of Bowingham, Maine. Also a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two daughters, two sons, and by two sisters and three brothers. The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon, after a short service at the Parnell home, New Germany. The service was continued at the church. Hemford, where the presence of a very large congregation testified to the high esteem in which the deceased was held in the community. The service was conducted by Rev. Mr. Martell, pastor of St. John-in-the-Wilderness Anglican, New Germany, a friend of the deceased and his family, who preached a comforting message to the bereaved. Hymns sung were "What A Friend," "Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross," and "Have Thine Own Way Lord." Pall bearers were Allison, Howard, and Dennis Silver and David Mailman.
