George was born May 19, 1927, in rural Okarche, Oklahoma the son of Steve and Margaret Ann (Rausch) Meiwes. He grew up in the Canadian County, Oklahoma area. George was born May 19, 1927, in rural Okarche, Oklahoma the son of Steve and Margaret Ann (Rausch) Meiwes. He grew up in the Canadian County, Oklahoma area. On October 7, 1947, George married Gertrude E. Lagaly in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Union City, Oklahoma. They made their home in Oklahoma until 1956 when they moved to the panhandle of Texas. In 1967, they made their home on a farm northwest of Moran, Kansas. George enjoyed his family and caring for his cattle and crops. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Iola, Kansas. Survivors include his wife Gertrude Meiwes of the home; three sons, George Meiwes & wife, Janet of Moran, KS, Paul Meiwes & wife, Becky of Iola, KS, and Gene Meiwes & wife, Karen of Iola, KS; four daughters, Margie Clements & husband, Jim of Dumas, TX, Ann Weston of Moran, KS, Karen Rickson & husband, Steve of Tuscon, AZ, and Janet Phillips & husband, Dave of Olpe, KS; one daughter-in-law, Michelle Meiwes of Moran, KS; one brother, Steve Meiwes & wife, Pat of Hereford, TX; two sisters, Bernita Berntsen of LaHarpe, KS, and Margaret Eddie & husband, Bob of Yankton, SD; 23 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sons, Frank and Edward Meiwes; son-in-law Donald Weston; brother Henry Meiwes; sisters Elizabeth Reherman and Marie Sigl; and by two infant siblings. Rosary recital, and Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at St. John's Catholic Church in Iola, Kansas. Burial will be in Moran Cemetery, Moran, KS. Memorial gifts suggested to St. John's Catholic Church, or to the Parkinson's Foundation, and may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, KS, which is in charge of arrangements. ***************************
