He was born October 2, 1895, to Garolt and Swaanje Korte in the Province of Gronigen, The Netherlands and grew to manhood there. He was one of eight children. He served in the Dutch army during World War I. In 1920 he came to the United States and to Holyoke where he worked on the Meusborn farm. Later he and his brother, Harm, farmed together northeast of Holyoke, before he acquired his own farm. He lived in Phillips County nearly 50 years. On January 30, 1929 he was united in marriage to Gladys Selinda Owens. To this union three children were born. He lived an active busy life. One of the highlights of his life was meeting the requirements and becoming a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1937. He served on the school board of District 61 in the 1940s. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a sister in Holland and his brother, Koeno, of Sterling. He is survived by a son, Raymond, Holyoke; two daughters, Lou Eva Patterson, Florence, Alabama, and Shirley Korte, Alaska; a brother, Harm Korte, Wisconsin; two sisters and two brothers and their families in Holland, six grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. At age 25, he came to the U. S. July 1920 on the S. S. Rotterdam. Manifest (name is Geert Korte) dated July 3, 1920. His destination is listed as Holyoke. His brother's name, Koene Korte, is listed next to his name.
