A wound accidentally inflicted by an ax to his left foot, when sixteen years of age, was the indirect cause of his death. When a lad Mr. Chase accidentally cut his foot. The wound healed, but later years it became infected and was a running sore. In the spring of this year he went to the Mayo Bros. hospital at Rochester, Minnesota, and after many weeks spent there, underwent an operation, physicians amputating his limb in an effort to combat the poison which was going through his system. After returning home Mr. Chase was greatly improved for a time, but several weeks ago suffered a relapse and was from that time until the end confined to his bed. George L. Chase was born in Illinois on October 16, 1877. He was united in marriage to Silvia McClain in Exira about 28 years ago. To this union two children were born, a daughter, Goldie, who is now Mrs. Louis Smith of Ingersoll, Oklahoma, and a son, Earl, who is at home. He also leaves to mourn his loss the wife, his father, Joe Chase; three sisters: Mrs. Nellie Wolfe, of Audubon; Mrs. Grace McClain and Mrs. Roy McClain of this city; four brothers: Dick of Casper, Wyo.; Wesley, Guy and Glen of Exira. His mother preceded him in death by only a few months. Funeral services were held at the Christian church on Sunday, November 16, at two o'clock p. m., conducted by Rev. Dale Humbert. Interment was in Exira cemetery.
