Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013 in the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake, SD. Inurnment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Clear Lake. Keonecke, age 91, of Clear Lake, SD passed away Friday, July 12, 2013 in the Sanford Clear Lake Medical Center. George was born on July 23, 1921 to George and Sybil Hope (English) Koenecke in Clear Lake, South Dakota. He attended and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1939. George proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and spent almost four years with most of the time in the South Pacific Theatre. After returning home George worked for John Thoelke in the Super Value store, later becoming a partner and then sole owner. George was united in marriage to Dorothea Jean Thoelke on March 22, 1947. He passed away on Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Sanford Clear Lake Medical Center at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 19 days. George was the past president of the Clear Lake Commercial Club, the Clear Lake Development Corporation and has been Adjutant of the local Legion Post. He has also served as Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star, is a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge and is a past secretary of the South Dakota Retailers Association as well as a past board member. He was a past Lay Leader of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church and served on other church boards and committees. He served on the Clear Lake Centennial committee, the Doctor Procurement Committee and was a charter member and served on the board of the Clear Lake Golf Club. He was a member of the Clear Lake Ambulance Service and in 1982 was awarded EMT of the year. George is lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Dorothea Koenecke of Clear Lake, SD, one daughter Diane (Larry) Kjenstad of Brandt, SD, two sons, Steven (Connie) Koenecke of Arvada, Co and Paul (Deedra) Koenecke of Sioux Falls, SD; 7 grandchildren, Julie (David) Cook, Kris (Greg) Torline, Jeffrey (Kelli) Kjenstad, Corey Koenecke, Jason (Jessica) Kjenstad, Kelly Koenecke and her husband Michael Carlton and Thatcher Koenecke. and 11 great-grandchiildren, Thomas Cook, Jani Hardin, Dakota Koenecke, Nicholas Cook, Jacob Torline, Katelyn Torline, Sarah Cook, Ethan Kjenstad, Josi Kjenstad, Ella Kjenstad, and Brady Carlton; his sisters-in-law, Geraldine Koenecke, Betty Schiefelbein, Sandy Thoelke and Barbara (Pat) Mullarkey and several nieces and nephews. George was preceeded in death by his parents, step father Roy Konold, brother and sister-in-law Sidney and Louise Koenecke, brother Melvin Koenecke, in-laws John and Clara Thoelke, brother-in laws, Loren Schiefelbein and John O. Thoelke.
