Read More	Facts about George: -He was a Service Station Attendant -Served in the US Army Reserve -Was in a Truck Accident near Grey Cliff which fractured his skull -Buried Jan. 15, 1962 Obituary: George Bjorndal - Big Timber Pioneer - January 18, 1962 George Bjorndal, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bjarne Bjorndal, was killed last Thursday morning when the two-ton gasoline truck he was driving collided with a big semi-truck about a mile east of Gray Cliff. According to the highway patrol, a strong wind pushed the semi-truck out of control on the icy highway. It jack-knifed, throwing the trailer into the path of the gasoline truck. George, employed by the Walton Oil Co., was delivering a load of gasoline to Reed Point at the time of the accident. The driver of the semi, Conrad V. Modle, 30, and a relief driver, Russell Widger, both of Gillette, Wyo., were not injured. They were driving for the Riesland Trucking Co. of Gillette. The gasoline truck was demolished and the truck trailer was extensively damaged. At a coroner's inquest conducted Friday by Coroner Dean Lowry, it was determined the accident was caused by the winter road conditions and that no negligence was involved. Jury members were Gene Spilde, C.M. Sheen, Carl Mosness, Harold Braley, Don Niven, Don Tetlie and George Domasco. The jury's verdict held that ice and snow-packed roads, made worse by blowing snow, caused the accident. Wind gusts up to 50 miles an hour prevailed at the time of the accident. Funeral services for the accident victim were conducted Monday afternoon from the First Congregational Church, Rev. Ben Knopp officiating. Music was by Mrs. Jerry Egeland who sang "In the Garden" and "Nearer My God to Thee," accompanied at the organ by Mrs. O.J. Paulson. Pallbearers were Frank Cosgriff, Dean Larson, Glen Galentine, Vernon Spurgin, Harold Krone and Ronald Faw. Interment was in Mountain View. Mr. Bjorndal was born April 3, 1940, at Columbus, and lived with his parents at Absarokee until 1946 when the family moved to the present Bjorndal ranch on Otter Creek. He attended grade school at the Otter Creek school and graduated from Sweet Grass County High School. He had been a member of the U.S. Army Reserve since graduation. George had been employed at the Downer sawmill In Livingston, and at Norman's Conoco and Walton Oil Co. in Big Timber. He was also engaged in ranching. Deceased was married to Mary Lee Davis April 7, 1961, in Livingston. Survivors include his widow; his parents; a brother, David Bjorndal, in the Army sttioned at Fort Scott AFB in Illinois; a sister, Linda Bjorndal of Reed Point; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Agnes Smith of Big Timber, and several uncles and aunts.
