Kelly, 72, life time Jasper county resident, died early Tuesday at Skiff hospital here. He suffered a stroke of paralysis while driving alone Monday afternoon en route to a farm sale near Baxter, Ia. He was able to stop his car at the roadside before losing consciousness. Arm on Horn - As he collapsed his arm remained on the car horn, which summoned aid from men working in a farm yard about a half mile distant. He did not regain consciousness before his death about 3 a.m. Tuesday.Kelly was Jasper county sheriff two terms ending in 1932 and had served as Newton city councilman at various times. Before his period as sheriff and following his retirement from office, he was a livestock buyer and was widely known throughout central Iowa. Mother 94 - He was a charter member and many years trustee of the Elks lodge here and was also a member and former officer of the Odd Fellows lodge. His wife; a son, George Logan, Ia., attorney; a daughter, Mrs. B. Meredith Barrett of Wilmette, Ill.; his mother, Laura Kelly, 94; a brother and two sisters survive. The previous obituary states he was a lifelong resident, but he and his brother W.J. Kelly were the co-founders of Kelly, Wyoming. It was a town that was wiped out in a flood in May 1927.
