Brodhecker was born near Brownstown, Jackson county, Indiana, May 31, 1848, and died at the home of his son Frank, who lives southeast of Holton, February 6, 1919, his age being 70 years, 8 months and 6 days. His parents were German pioneers and he grew to robust manhood while doing his part towards changing a heavily wooded country to a fertile farming community. He came to Kansas in the year of 1870, locating in Riley county. In 1847 Mr. Brodhecker was united in marriage to Anna Applerad, who died March 6, 1902. To them were born five children, all of whom are living. They are Paul and Cressie, of St. Joseph, Mo.; Mrs. May Hadley of San Francisco, Calif., and Frank and Walter of Holton. He is also survived by eight grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters are now living in Indiana. Mr. Brodhecker came to Holton in 1876. The seventeen years following were spent in the employ of the King Mercantile store .... He married Anna Fees on July 7, 1914, with whom he lived until her death, which occurred December 25, 1914. Since that time he has made his home with his son Frank and family. Soon after coming to Holton, Mr. Brodhecker united with the M. E. church. Later he joined a U. B. church at Philo and in 1897 his membership was put in the M. E. church again ... held membership in the Holton lodge No. 34, I. O. O. F. .... burial was made in the Holton cemetery.
