The father of ten children, Pat was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Bowes, wife Mary, son, Ronald of Daytona, FL., and brother, Carroll. He is survived by his brother, James E. Bowes of Lancaster, sister, Mary E. Teach, Columbus, Ohio; children; Kathleen Adams of Plano, TX., James (Rita Elliott), Joan (Nick) England, and Michael all of Lancaster, Patrick of Mason, Ohio, Karen (Neil) Boel of Boise, ID., Joseph (Therese) of Waukesha, WI., Daniel (Bonnie) of New Albany, OH., and Thomas (Lisa) of Lancaster; daughter-in-law, Cheryl of Daytona, FL.; 35 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. Pat Bowes was a graduate of St. Mary's High School class of 1943 where he served as president of his junior and senior class and was a star on the basketball team. In college, Pat played basketball for Providence College. He then served in the U.S. Army, 88th Infantry Division, and received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman Badge, and Two Major Battle Stars while serving primarily in Northern Africa and Italy during World War II. After the war, Pat coached basketball at St. Mary's High School for three years and was a basketball official for thirteen years. He worked for the Veterans Administration and then Anchor Hocking for 35 years eventually serving as Payroll Manager, and as bookkeeper for the American Legion for 20 years. Pat was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1016, American Legion Post #11, Eagles #2120, VFW Post #1516, and AMVETS Post #1985. Among his many accomplishments, Pat led fundraising efforts for the poor in India through Fr. Dan Rice, for St. Mary's Parish, and for the Knights of Columbus. Pat's decades of service to the Knights of Columbus was rewarded in 2009 when he was named "Knight of the Year" and in 2010 when the Builder's Club was named in his honor. Pat Bowes was a kind, considerate, witty, strong, and spirited man. Pat was an avid fan Notre Dame but his greatest love was his wife, Mary, and their ten children. Visitation will be held at SHERIDAN FUNERAL HOME Thursday, July 12, 2012 from 2:00 - 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. A vigil service will be held on Thursday at 7:30 P.M. with Deacon Matt Morris officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 13, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary's Church with Father Craig Eilerman as Celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery where full military honors will be observed by the Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Pat's favorite charity, the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
