Description	:	Son of Adam Patterson and Elizabeth (or Isabel) (Thurston) Patterson who came to America, probably from Londonderry, Ireland, about 1729/30. According to some family researchers, he was born in or near Belfast, North Ireland, and was five years old when his parents brought him to America. During the French and Indian War, George was a soldier in the company of Capt. Robert Letheridge of Pelham, Col. Israel Williams' regiment, which marched by the Captain General's orders for the relief of the garrison and troops at Fort William Henry at the time it was invested in 1757. During the French and Indian War, George was a soldier in the company of Capt. Robert Letheridge of Pelham, Col. Israel Williams' regiment, which marched by the Captain General's orders for the relief of the garrison and troops at Fort William Henry at the time it was invested in 1757. During the Revolutionary War, as one of the Minute Men, he was in the company of Capt. David Cowden which marched from Pelham on August 17,1777. This is the regiment of Col. Ruggles Woodbridge at the Battle of Bennington, and George was released on Aug 20,1777. George settled first at Pelham,MA, then came to Colrain,MA sometime during the American Revolution. In 1751, George was the Constable of Pelham and, in the same year, his son James was born. In 1756 he was on the school board; he was the deer reeve in 1757; and a surveyor in 1761. He was allotted a church pew with William Grey in 1776; was "Veniue Master" in 1769, and was one of the "Committee of Correspondence" in 1773 and 1777. He served as Selectman of Pelham during the years 1763,66,69,70,75,77 and 1779. On March 29,1776 he was chosen to be on the Committee of Safety. His name does appear latter than 1779 in the History of Pelham, but in 1780 his name is shown at Colrain,MA. He married Margaret Gilmore at Kingston,NH on Oct 2,1749. Children: Mary Patterson Clark, James Patterson, Adam Patterson, George Patterson Jr, Naomi Patterson Berry, John Patterson, Graham Patterson, Sarah "Sally" Patterson Donelson, and Jonathan Patterson.
