(Darney) Nelson, a native of this community who has been residing in Baltimore for a number of years, passed away at his home in that city last Saturday morning, after an illness of several weeks, at the age of 76. (Darney) Nelson, a native of this community who has been residing in Baltimore for a number of years, passed away at his home in that city last Saturday morning, after an illness of several weeks, at the age of 76. He was a son of the late James and Henrietta Nelson, and came from a family prominent in the civic, religious and commercial life of the community. Mr. Nelson spent most of his life in Crisfield. As a young man Mr. Nelson was employed with the firm of H. M. Douglas & Co., in the retail merchandising business, and afterward engaged in the seafood business. Quite a number of years ago he opened a seafood place in Johnstown, Pa., where he spent his winters attending to that business, returning to his home here for the summer months. A few years ago he moved to Baltimore and operated the seafood business on Lexington street in that city. He was a fine type of citizen, affable, courteous, very friendly, and a very good business man. In all his endeavors he was successful, and he made many friends wherever he was. While it was understood that his health was failing, his death came as a shock to this community where he was born and raised and lived so long. He was a 82nd degree Mason. Funeral services were held in the Hubbard Funeral Home Tuesday at 2.00 p.m., conducted by the pastor of his former church, Rev. J. T. Rowlenson. Interment was in the family lot in Asbury cemetery. Bearers were members of the Chesapeake Lodge of Masons, which conducted services at the grave. He is survived by his wife, Edith M. Nelson (nee Sterling), one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Lynch of Baltimore, a granddaughter, and one sister, Mrs. Evelyn Tull of this city.
