He was born in Shelby Co, Ohio, December, 1829, and raised to farm life. Being left fatherless when but a boy, he soon after was on the waves of time battling his way by engaging as a farm laborer and at saw-milling from which be rose, step by step, to his present standing. He is a large land-owner; part of his land lies in Champaign County, Indiana and Iowa. Mr Kiser is one of the scientific farmers, takes particular pride in keeping his land in a good, tillable state and well improved; he is one of the prominent grain-raisers of Johnson Township; he also handles and keeps a fine class of stock on his farms. Mr Kiser is a self-made man and has earned his property by his own exertions. In November, 1856, he married Margaret E McVay born in Butler Co, Ohio, in 1838. They have two children-John W and Mary B. St Paris - June 9, 1910 George Riley Kiser died in St Paris last Tuesday, one of the oldest citizens. He was born in Shelby County about seven miles northwest of St Paris, December 10, 1828, being the 7th child of 13 children, of these only one survives. All the family, but Mr Kiser, moved to Illinois where they remained until their death. He conducted a sawmill north of Millerstown. In the fall of 1856, he was united in marriage to Margaret McVey, to this union was born twins on June 1, 1857, these two children Miss Belle Kiser and John W Kiser. The mother having died February 17, 1907. Since the departure of his wife, a niece Mrs Sherwin, has made Mr Kiser an excellent companion. The funeral service will take place this afternoon, Rev Weaver having charge. The remains laid to rest in Spring Grove Cemetery. Champaign Democrat June 16, 1910 Thursday afternoon the funeral services over the remains of the late George Kiser were held from the family home in St Paris. The services were in charge of Rev Mr Weaver of Piqua, who paid many fine tributes to the deceased. The music was furnished by E Clyde Shyrigh, of this city, and the Ladies Quartet of the Methodist church of St Paris. The floral offerings were beautiful, among them being American Beatuy roses, orchids, and other rare flowers. Many people were present from Urbana and other places to pay their last respects to the deceased. After the regular services had been completed the members of Pharos Lodge F & AM of St Paris took charge. The beautiful and impressive Masonic ceremonies were used. The lodge then accompanied the remains to their last resting place in Spring Grove Cemetery.
