Description	:	George R. Dowden, age 84 of Kokomo passed away on June 17, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo following an extended illness. He was born on December 14, 1930 in Oakford the son of the late Walter and Myrtle (Harris) Dowden. George married the love of his life Charlotte "Ann" (Smith) Dowden on July 9, 1950 and they shared almost 65 years of marriage. He served in the National Guard and was employed by Chrysler for 33 years before his retirement in 1996. George really enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was born on December 14, 1930 in Oakford the son of the late Walter and Myrtle (Harris) Dowden. George married the love of his life Charlotte "Ann" (Smith) Dowden on July 9, 1950 and they shared almost 65 years of marriage. He served in the National Guard and was employed by Chrysler for 33 years before his retirement in 1996. George really enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved music, golfing, woodworking, and gardening. He was a member of the UAW Local 1166 and the Brookside Free United Methodist Church. George is survived by his wife, Ann Dowden; daughter, Kay (Gerry) Bitner; sons George "Ron" (Denise) Dowden Jr., Tim (Leetta) Dowden; grandchildren Bryan (Amy) Bitner, Sarah (Craig) Swoverland, John Bitner, Kasey (Denver) Reeve, Aubrey (Derek) Adams, Travis (Lindsay) Overton, Bradley Dowden, Carley Dowden; great grandchildren, Ari and Ian Swoverland, Logan Hodson, Leland Reeve; sisters-in-law Sue Holverson, Beverly Holverson, Dorothy Cowan; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 4 sisters. The family would like to thank Dr. Bozard, Dr. Abbasi, and St. Vincent Hospital Kokomo especially the 4th floor nurses for all the wonderful care they provided to George. The family would also like to thank Franciscan Visiting Nurse and Guardian Angel Hospice for all the care they provided. A funeral service to celebrate George's life will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Brookside Free Methodist Church, 190 East 400 South Kokomo. Pastor Doug Benham will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.
