OBITUARY: George Severance Pollard was born Aug. 23, 1868 at Crab Orchard, KY., and died in Alliance Nov. 26, 1948, following a brief illness. Mr Pollard moved to Norton Co, KS, in 1891 and in 1899 he volunteered for service in the Spanish American war, serving as quartermaster sergeant in Company E, 44th Regiment of U.S. Infantry. Following military service he was engaged in farming in Kansas, and was married Sept 27, 1907 to Mrs. Eleanora (Hendrickson)-Hicks at Norton, KS. He had been a railroad employe before the war, and returned to that work in 1912 moving to Lakeside as section foreman for the Burlington in 1913. The family moved to Alliance in 1938, following his retirement. Since the first World War Mr Pollard has been active in various patriotic and veteran organizations, and served on the Box Butte county selective service board during World War II. He was a member of I.O.O.F lodge No. 168, Alliance Lodge #183, AF&AM, Spanish War Veterans, Alliance Post of V.F.W., and the Ninety and Nine Bible class. When national selective service was resumed several months ago, he was appointed by Gov. Val Peterson to serve as chairman of the local board. He is survived by his wife , five daughters, four sons, 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The children are Mrs. Fred Moelle, Los Angeles; Mrs. E.H. Newhouse, The Dalles, OR; Mrs. Ruth Morse, Omaha; Mrs. W.A. Wells, Casper, WY; Mary Pollard, Alliance; William, Stapleton; Dale, Richard and Perry, all of Alliance. One son Lyle, died in Lakeside in 1914. Mr. Pollard is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Mary White, Indianapolis, and two brothers, Henry, Danville, IN., and John, Crab Orchard, KY. Funeral services were held Monday at the Methodist church with Rev. E.G. Larsen officiating. Interment was made in Alliance cemetery with Landa Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. ADOPTION: Step children Edith Mae and Verni Ruth Hicks 14 June 1910 in Norton, KS. OTHER: Most of the information for this individual and his family line was furnished by his son, Perry LeRoy Pollard.
