G. Stewart is the last surviving civil war soldier here. The funeral service for Mr.Dotson was conducted by the (Rev. F. Clayburg, pastor of the Methodist church of Villisca, and the music was by Mrs. L.W. Scott, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Albert F. Davie. The pallbearers were grandsons: Chester Dotson,Grant; Russell Dotson, Cumberland; Roy and Walter Dotson, Elliott; George Dotson, Red Oak; and Clarence Dotson, Mt. Etna. Burial was in the Villisca cemetery. Mr. Dotson, who died Wednesday afternoon of last week at his home on Fourth avenue, his death resulting from a stroke of paralysis which he suffered the Sunday morning previous, and never regained consciousness after he was stricken. George Snyder Dotson was born Dec. 26, 1846, in Bedford county, Pennsylvania, and grew to manhood in that state. In 1862 he moved to Lee county, Illinois, where he lived until 1865 when he enlisted in the Union army in March of that year. He served until the end of the war, at the close of which he returned to Pennsylvania where he lived three years, then went again to Illinois. He married Miss Anna Sevilla Shepherd, Nov. 10, 1870, in Illinois,and in 1871 they moved to Montgomery county, Iowa, settling on a farm in Pilot Grove township, six and a half miles southwest of Grant, where all of their twelve children were born and where they lived until they came to Villisca in 1915 to make their home. Mr. Dotson is survived by his wife and seven children who are Lloyd Dotson, Mt.Etna, Iowa; Mrs. Fred Burton and Franklin Dotson, Corning; Ernest Dotson, Elliott; John Dotson, Cumberland; Mrs. Wesley Burton, Villisca; and Harry Dotson, Redlands, Calif.; and by a granddaughter, Miss Mildred Weller, who is attending college at Grand Island, Nebr., and who has made her home with Mr. a n d Mrs. Dotson since the death of her mother about 10 years ago. There are 32 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mr. Dotson united with the Presbyterian church nearly 47 years ago and later transferred his membership to the Lincoln Center Methodist church. In 1920 he and Mrs. Dotson transferred their membership to the local Methodist church. All the children except Harry Dotson of Redlands, Calif., were here for the funeral service.
