Speedling was born September 18, 1830, in New York; married to Sarah Jane Kershaw in June, 1855; moved to Cedar county, Iowa, in 1871; to Adair County in 1875, and has continued his residence here until the close of life. He was converted in the winter of 1877 and lived a consistent Christian until the close of life. Speedling Obituary Adair County Free Press May 11, 1911 Geo. Speedling was born September 18, 1830, in New York; married to Sarah Jane Kershaw in June, 1855; moved to Cedar county, Iowa, in 1871; to Adair County in 1875, and has continued his residence here until the close of life. He was converted in the winter of 1877 and lived a consistent Christian until the close of life. On Easter Sunday he realized the end was near and spoke of his hopes of eternal life to his wife, daughter and a grandson present, telling them not to weep for him. He leaves an aged wife, one daughter, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren to mourn his loss and follow him to the eternal life. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Geo. Raper, May 2, 1911, aged 80 years, 7 months and 24 days. A short service was held at the house by Rev. Howie after which the body was taken to Canby and services held at Friends church among the people he lived with so long. Sermon by Rev. Abbie Lake. Interment in cemetery at that place.
