Description	:	"George Spielman was born in Germany March 24, 1846; died at his home near Ozawkie, Jefferson Co., Kansas, December 5, 1921. His age was 75 years 8 months. When he was a lad of 4 or 5 years his father died, leaving him, with one sister and one brother, to the care of the widowed mother, who, with her three children, came to America when George was nine years old, landing at New York city. Read More	"George Spielman was born in Germany March 24, 1846; died at his home near Ozawkie, Jefferson Co., Kansas, December 5, 1921. His age was 75 years 8 months. When he was a lad of 4 or 5 years his father died, leaving him, with one sister and one brother, to the care of the widowed mother, who, with her three children, came to America when George was nine years old, landing at New York city. Little did they think of the greater calamity awaiting them in their new home, as in just two weeks after their arrival the mother was called home, while residing in Chicago. From that time he was left to make his own way in the world. Among other activities in his early manhood was driving team for the Government, having made three trips across the plains with a wagon train. In June 1872 he took up a homestead of 160 acres in Jewell county, Kansas, three and one half miles south of Jewell City. April 13, 1881, at Mankato, Kans. he was united in marriage with Mary Louella Smith. To them eleven children were born, all of whom are living and were present at their father's funeral. He came to Jefferson county in 1913, locating on a farm 3 miles east of Ozawkie, at which place he resided until his death. His early religious training was that of the Catholic faith, but he was not of the radical type, inasmuch as he would attend other religious services with his family and would not discourage anyone in their Christian faith. Mr. Spielman was one of Jefferson county's substantial farmers, a man of sterling qualities, industrious, straightforward and honest in dealing with his fellowman. He leaves a devoted companion, eleven children, eight grandchildren, and other relatives and friends who will miss him as companion, father, neighbor and friend. Funeral services were conducted from the M. E. church, Oskaloosa Thursday 2 p.m. Dec. 8, Rev. H. L. Brammell in charge." Oskaloosa Independent, December 16, 1921
