George Thomas DeBord, son of Peter and Mary DeBord was born February 2, 1866 in Laurel County, Kentucky and departed from this life June 17, 1950 at the age of 84 years, 4 months and 15 days at the Coolidge Hospital in Palmer, Nebraska. At the age of sixteen he came to Nebraska with his parents, brothers and sisters and settled on a homestead northeast of Wolbach. He endured the hardships of the early pioneers and helped in the building of some of the first buildings erected around Wolbach. He worked as a carpenter for Gould and Baker many years at Kearney and Amherst, Nebraska. In 1928 he went to work at the T. B. Hospital at Kearney where he was employed for six years. While there he suffered a stroke and returned to Cushing, where he lived with his brother, John and family until his brother's death in 1943. He then moved to Wolbach where he resided with his niece, Mrs. Mabel Wagner until he entered the hospital May 12, 1950. Mr. DeBord was never married. He was one of a family of nine children. His brothers, sisters, and parents having preceded him in death. He is survived by a brother Jim of Gillette, Wyoming and several nieces and nephews. His way of life was quiet and unassuming, a very thoughtful and appreciative person. A quiet simplicity was an unfailing rule in his life.
