Read More	Following an illness that for four weeks had been regarded as of a serious nature, George Vance Harsha, 63 years old, one of Canonsburg's best-known residents, died at midnight Saturday in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, where he was taken on Sunday, August 10. He had suffered from stomach and intestinal diseases, and it was decided to have an operation. This operation was performed last Monday. His condition, neither before nor following the operation, was such as to offer much hope of recovery, and his death on Saturday night was not unexpected. Mr. Harsha was a son of William and Harriet (Fee) Harsha, and was born on his father's farm in Chartiers township, September 7, 1850. Upon the death of the husband and father, the widow and her children removed to Canonsburg where they continued to reside. For many years George Marsha was engaged in the produce business, but retiring from that line of trade associated himself with David Hart and others in forming the firm of Hart, Harsha & Co., which for a number of years operated the Chartiers Valley Woolen Mill, at the West End of Canonsburg. Their business was successful until the company's plant, was destroyed by fire February 28, 1887. Frugal in his habits and endowed with business ability, Mr. Harsha amassed considerable wealth. In 1806 he erected the Harsha building, one of the largest business structures in Canonsburg. He owned other properties here, also. It could be said of him that he was a self-made man. Mr. Harsha lived the life of a bachelor, and for many years had made his home with his sister, Mrs. Elizabeth H. Huston, widow of H. A. Huston, at 311 West Pike street. Besides Mrs. Huston, one other sister and two brothers survive Mrs. William Hutchinson of Woodsdale, a suburb of Wheeling, W. Va., and William G. and Thomas Harsha of Canonsburg. The body was brought to Canonsburg on the 6:14 train last evening. Funeral services will be held in the Huston home, 311 West Pike street. Tuesday at 2:30 p. m.
