George Victor Schufeldt was born near Elmira, New York, June 29, 1856, where he lived until the close of the Civil War in 1865, having lost his father during the battle of Fredricksburg. Schufeldt in Wymore, early Friday morning. George Victor Schufeldt was born near Elmira, New York, June 29, 1856, where he lived until the close of the Civil War in 1865, having lost his father during the battle of Fredricksburg. He lived for a few years at Cainville, Illinois, later moving to Grinnell, Iowa, where he lived until 1870, when he moved to Chicago, where he lived until coming to Nebraska. He arrived in Nebraska during the year of 1877, but in 1879 he decided to venture further west and took up a homestead in Red Willow county (sic). However, a few years later he came back to Nuckolls county (sic), sharing in the pioneer life and work. Though not having had an opportunity for obtaining an education in early life, and with this ambition uppermost in his heart and mind, when the opportunity came to him he made use of it. For when he was the father of three children he attended college at Fairfield, taking a course of study and completing it; thus fitting himself for further work in Sunday school and church work in which he was always interested. Here in Nuckolls county he met and courted Louisa Jane Marlenee, whom he was united in marriage with on April 14, 1883, and moved on her homestead which was a half mile east of that of her father, Wm. Marlenee, and residing here continuously until the death of his wife on June 22, 1932. The homestead patent was granted to them in 1890 under President Harrison. To this union seven children were born, three of whom preceded him in death: Fanny who died in infancy, Opal at the age of 16 years, and Dean who came to his death in an accident just a week preceding the death of his father, while bringing him to Wymore, after a short visit with Paul at Arnold. Four sons are left to mourn his departure: Marley C. of Wymore, Paul of Arnold; and Will and Earl of Nelson: also twenty-nine grandchildren and two great grand children. Since his wife's death he has spent his time visiting with his sons and spreading the Gospel of his Lord, in whose vineyard he was ever called to work. The funeral services were held in the United Brethren church north of Nelson Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Ethington and Rev. Kilpatrick of Angus. Burial was in the Nelson cemetery.
