Description	:	George W. (Bud) Benedict, age 69, of Berthold, died Thursday, June 3rd. Funeral services were held Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the Berthold Baptist Church with burial in the Wildrose Cemetery at Berthold. Mr. Benedict was currently serving the Third District Democrats as a member of the House of Representatives. (Bud) Benedict, age 69, of Berthold, died Thursday, June 3rd. Funeral services were held Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the Berthold Baptist Church with burial in the Wildrose Cemetery at Berthold. Mr. Benedict was currently serving the Third District Democrats as a member of the House of Representatives. He had been active in local and state government for a number of years, serving as Mayor and Council member at Berthold for 16 years. He also owned and operated Bud’s Food Market in Berthold from 1943 to 1972. Mr. Benedict was elected to the state legislature in 1973 and had served as district chairman of his party. He was a member of the Ward County Red Cross, the North Dakota League of Municipalities, State Retail Grocers Association and the State Frozen Food Locker Association. He was a vice president of the latter organization. Mr. Benedict was born June 27, 1906, at Berthold. He was to live all of his life at Berthold and Lonetree. In earlier years he farmed in the Berthold area. Shortly after his marriage to Pauline Hornberger June 19, 1935, at Des Lacs, he and his wife opened a grocery store in Lonetree. They operated the store until establishing Bud’s market. He was a graduate of Lonetree High School and later serves as a clerk of the school board. He attended North Dakota State University at Fargo. Surviving are his wife; daughters, Mrs. Roy (Garene) Bibelhelmer, Cathay, Mrs. Gary (Janene) Haugen, Minot, Mrs. Fred (Etoile) Keiser Jr. and Mrs. Larry (Karen) Borud, both Berthold; his father, J. M. Joiner, Berthold, sisters, Mrs. C. C. Strait, Mrs. L. M. Bry, and Mrs. Loren Burkhart, all of Berthold, and Mrs. O. L. Hagen, Bismarck,; and 10 grandchildren. From The Kenmare News
