Description	:	George was born on 31 March 1836 (although headstone shows 1837) in Pennsylvania, the 3rd child of John and Lydia P. (Landes) Delp. Little is known of George's early life. We find him on the 1850 U. S. Census living in Upper Salford Twp., Montgomery Co., Pennsylvania, in the household of his Aunt and Uncle, Henry and Elizabeth (Landes) Moyer. By 1860, he is living in Sterling, Whiteside Co., Illinois, living in the household of no known relative, although there were some Delps in the area. George was a veteran of the Civil War. He fought for the Union as a... Read More	George was born on 31 March 1836 (although headstone shows 1837) in Pennsylvania, the 3rd child of John and Lydia P. (Landes) Delp. Little is known of George's early life. We find him on the 1850 U. S. Census living in Upper Salford Twp., Montgomery Co., Pennsylvania, in the household of his Aunt and Uncle, Henry and Elizabeth (Landes) Moyer. By 1860, he is living in Sterling, Whiteside Co., Illinois, living in the household of no known relative, although there were some Delps in the area. George was a veteran of the Civil War. He fought for the Union as a member of the "A 34 Illinois Infantry." George married Ellen Almira Doolittle, in Sterling, Whiteside Co., Illinois, on 18 September 1866. To this union were born 3 sons and 3 daughters. All but the youngest child, son Bert E., were married and lived full lives, with many of them ending up in California. By 1870, he is living with Ellen, in Sterling, Johnson Co., Nebraska. Daughter Mabel is aged 9 mos. and had been born in Wisconsin, so they were newly arrived at this location, apparently moving from Wisconsin. They homesteaded this property and the Delps lived in that area for decades. George passed away on 11 October 1884. Later, Ellen filed a successful application for a pension from the state of Nebraska for George's service in the Civil War. According to her obituary, Ellen lived in the area for another 8 years, before moving down into Summerfield, Marshall Co., Kansas, where she lived out her life and is buried there.
