Hamilton died very suddenly at his home in Stratford last Tuesday evening, March 1, 1898, of cancer of the stomach. He was born at Flint, Gennesee Co., Michigan, Nov. 23rd, 1837, where he resided until 1867 when he came with his parents to Dallas county, Iowa. In 1869 he was united in marriage with Evelyn Smalley. Five children were born to them - Rena, Ettie, Nettie, Frank and Willie, all of whom are living. He came with his family to Stratford in 1881, where he resided until his death. Geo. Hamilton was much respected and highly esteemed by all who knew him. He was a good Christian man and worthy citizen. He leaves a wife and family and a large circle of friends to mourn his loss. He was the oldest of five brothers, of whom one survives him. The funeral services were conducted March 3rd at two p.m. by Rev. Sudduth, in the M.E. church, of which he was a member. The text was Job 33. 1. The remains were followed by a large concourse of friends to the Oakwood Cemetery, where they were laid to rest. The family have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in their hour of sorrow.
