Kraft, 66, of west of Kenton, was reported steadily improving Thursday at Antonio hospital, where he had been receiving penicillin rushed to him Monday as he lay unconscious and near death from lobar pneumonia. Kraft's son, John, had made the trip from Kenton to Lima and return, securing the penicillin at St. Rita's hospital, after physicians told him Monday that his father would die if he didn't receive the miracle drug within an hour. With the assistance of Kenton and Lima police officers, he made the trip in an hour and 10 minutes. St. Rita's hospital had been named one of the depot hospitals for civilian use of penicillin, and allotted a monthly supply. (published in The Lima News, Friday, June 23, 1944, page 5) ------------------------------------------------------- George Kraft In spite of the fact he responded to the penicillin treatment, George Kraft, 66, of eight miles west of Kenton, died at Kenton's Antonio hospital Saturday. The penicillin was rushed to Kenton the early part of the week from Lima St. Rita's hospital by Kraft's son, John, and a Kenton policeman, Nicholas Ommert. While he improved somewhat and regained consciousness after taking penicillin, there was to apparent progressive improvement. (published in The Lima News, Sunday, June 25, 1944, page 4)
