Sams, one of the earliest residents of this vicinity, died Thursday evening at his home five miles south of Villisca on the farm where he had lived for 53 years. Sams, one of the earliest residents of this vicinity, died Thursday evening at his home five miles south of Villisca on the farm where he had lived for 53 years. The funeral was held there Sunday afternoon at the home with Rev. E. S. Menoher, assisted by Rev. G. T. Andrews in charge the service, and burial was in the Villisca Cemetery. George W. Sams, son of George and Lydia Sams, was born in Highland County, Ohio, October 4, 1839 and departed this life, June 10, 1920, at the age of 80 years, 8 months, and 6 days, after an illness of about three months, which he endured with much patience. He was united in marriage to Almyra Beaves, February 2, 1865, in Highland County, Ohio, and moved to Page County, Iowa, with his family in 1867, living on the same farm for 53 years. He leaves to mourn his loss a loving wife; a son J. G. Sams; a daughter, Mrs. T. A. Dyke; and two grandchildren, Vivian and Lyle Dyke, all of Villisca, Iowa; one brother, James Sams of Highland County, Ohio; and numerous other relatives and friends. He died in the Christian faith, having joined the Methodist Class of the North Grove Church about 35 years ago. He was always a regular attendant at church services as long as his strength would permit and has lived true to the faith.
