George Clarence's parents were George Washington Foddrell and Sarah J Collins. George Washington and Sarah did not marry until after they moved with their children to Carroll County Arkansas in the early1890's. George Clarence fell in love with the daughter of the preacher (Daniel Walker) who married his parents. He and Mary Elsie married in 1895. About that time G. W. Foddrell and Sarah decided to return to Stokes County N. C. but Clarence refused to go. G. W. said to leave him behind he would follow soon enough because he couldn't make it on his own! Clarence vowed to never go back to N. C. and never did. I have a copy of a letter from G. W. to Clarence written many years later but can't find it tonight. GW lived on the tobacco farm with his mother, Malinda Cloud Foddrell and brothers and sister Susan who was handicapped. His father Samuel died in 1834. I have a copy of his will. Sarah Collins lived with her mother (Coley Collins) in town. Sarah had brothers (John and William) in North Arkansas so she and GW moved to the land of opportunity (Arkansas) after about 5 years GW decided to return to NC.
