He was taken to Davenport where he died at 11 a.m. Conductor George Gilbert will be buried in the Marion cemetery, Saturday. Wife and son survive him. His first was a sister of Mrs. John M. Ross. The Marion Sentinel Thursday July 6, 1911 Conductor George Gilbert received injuries last Thursday while on duty on the Davenport and Ottumwa line of the Milwaukee, from which he died soon after. Both of his legs were cut off. His remains were brought to Marion, where he formerly resided for a number of years. The funeral was held in the Congregational church, conducted by Rev. Locke, pastor of the Congregational church in Ottumwa, assisted by Rev. Jay Jasper Jones, the local Congregational minister. Members of the Knights of Pythias and O.R.C. orders were pallbearers. Conductor Gilbert's first wife was a sister of Mrs. John Ross, of Marion. He was married the second time about a year and a half ago. He is survived by a wife and a son, who reside in Ottumwa.
