Johnson, 79, died at the Decatur County Hospital from heart trouble. Mr. Johnson was taken to the hospital January 28. He was suffering from an athletic heart and other complications. He had been a resident of Lamoni since 1921. Following is an obituary of this faithful R. L. D. S. church worker. George W., son of Mr. and Mrs. George J. Johnson, was born near Deloit, Iowa. February 15, 1858, and passed away February 3, 1938, at the Decatur County Hospital, lacking only 12 days of reaching his eightieth birthday. His birth cost him the loss of his mother. In his early years, he united with the church to which he was faithful to the end. He was married March 27, 1882, to Miss Louise C. Karli. After living for several years on farms in Iowa and Missouri, he moved to a farm near Eustis, Neb., where he erected his own buildings and lived for 26 years. He truly knew the ups and downs of early pioneer life. He later built a home in Eustis where he lived 11 years. During all these years he was happy to do what he could for his church, serving as president of the Eustis branch for many years. He was never too busy to answer a call no matter what the distance might be. In his home, the missionaries always found a warm welcome. In 1921 he returned to Lamoni, the home of his youth, to retire from his labors, and with his companion returned every year for a visit with his children. He leaves besides his dear companion, four children, Mrs. Olive Easterday, of Elwood, Neb.; Raymond, of New Raymer, Colo.; Mrs. Myrtle Anderson, of Denver, Cob.; and Leland of Johnston, Col. (A daughter, Zula May, passed away in infancy.) There are also six grandchildren, who mourn his departure. The children had all hurried to his bedside, and he had enjoyed their coming so much. His was the life of a noble man, and he was not afraid to meet his Savior. His many friends will miss him.
