Description	:	1.) William Wilson Johnson was born March 23, 1865, in Crawford County, Iowa, being 48 years, 3 months, and 16 days of age at the time of his sad ending last Wednesday, July 9, 1913. He comes from an excellent family. His father, George Jacob Johnson, dying while William was yet a lad. His mother, Maria Elizabeth, survives him and now lives in Clearwater, Nebraska. William Wilson Johnson was born March 23, 1865, in Crawford County, Iowa, being 48 years, 3 months, and 16 days of age at the time of his sad ending last Wednesday, July 9, 1913. He comes from an excellent family. His father, George Jacob Johnson, dying while William was yet a lad. His mother, Maria Elizabeth, survives him and now lives in Clearwater, Nebraska. Her present name is Mrs. Crumb. He was reared in this vicinity where he and his four brothers helped their widowed mother run the farm for some years. One brother, Jacob, died later on. Two of his remaining brothers, Samuel, of Walt Hill, Neb., and Ira, of Davis City, attended the funeral. He had five sisters: Mrs. Julia Ballard of Dickens, Neb.; Mrs. Rebecca Ballard of North Platte, Neb.; Mrs. Matilda Rew, of Oklahoma; Mrs. Janie Rew and Mary Stafford, of Lamoni; the latter two only being present. A half-brother, George Johnson, of Eustis, Neb., and a half-sister, Mrs. Betts Smith, of Ft. Smith, Kansas, were unable to be present . The deceased was married to Miss Chloe Brower, August 25, 1889. Of this union there remain six orphaned children to mourn: Mrs. Mary Dannpore and Fay Johnson of Kellerton, Ia., Edna, Pearl, and Marie Johnson, all present except the latter. The only son, Orlo, was unable to be present. About ten years ago the deceased had a severe attack of typhoid fever. As an after-effect, he had continual trouble with one of his limbs until two years ago when a malignant ulcer formed on one ankle which he was unable to heal. This was a great handicap in performing his daily toil. Lately it had deprived him of much needed sleep, but he seldom mentioned it and was known by all as a reliable and efficient, hard-working man, who always gave more than he contracted for. He was quiet, inoffensive, was not addicted to liquor nor tobacco, a man who had many disappointments in life. The sermon at Saints' church was by Elder G. R. Wells, who said the lesson we all can get from this sad fatality is to be very careful of handling wires of all kinds and to warn our children continually to not touch wires that are down, especially after a storm, as the town is a network of electrified wires. Elder John Smith was in charge of all the services which took place on the 11th inst. Interment in Rose Hill cemetery the side of his father's grave. About 6 o'clock last Wednesday afternoon at the power house of the local electric light plant occurred a very unfortunate accident causing the death of Mr. William Johnson, a long time resident of Lamoni. Mr. Johnson it seems has been employed off and on during the past few weeks in working on the new building being built by the light company for their artificial ice plant. He had not been at work since the Monday previous, but was around the plant during the afternoon. In the absence of the superintendent Mr. Gilbert, Mr. George Fowler having charge of the mason work and being very anxious to finish that part of the work that evening, suggested to Mr. Johnson that he help them out, which he willingly agreed to do. Since the beginning of the work on this building some of the service wires of the electric light plant have been moved from one position to another to accommodate the work as the ice plant is being builded adjoining the electric light power house. There are three wires carried out of the west end of the engine room thence carried through the door into the street south of the plant thence brought downtown to serve the Motor business—a temporary arrangement during the erection of the new building. A lamp cord had been extended also through the door for the convenience of some of the workmen installing machinery in the new building. When Mr. Johnson went to work this lamp cord seemed to be in his way and without consulting anyone, and no doubt unthoughtedly, he started to tie the cord up over the three motor wires. One of the workmen seeing about what he was going to do called to him warning him of the danger, but either not hearing or not heeding he took hold of the wire and received a shock that killed him instantly. The ground where Mr. Johnson was at work is usually dry, but he had brought in a mortar box and the leak-age from the box had saturated the ground with water, thus making the current much more deadly when the connection was made. The Superintendent, Mr. Gilbert, had warned the men to be careful about handling the wires even though they were insulated and under most circumstances harmless. The engineer was standing at the door of the power house and saw Mr. Johnson take hold of the wire and immediately pulled the switch on the power circuit but the damage had been done. Dr. Hills was called but found the man beyond aid. Mr. Johnson was held in high esteem by his fellow workmen and his sudden death cast a gloom over all of them and we might say the whole town to hear of one thus taken so suddenly from this life.
