Long George Washington Long, son of Andrew and Elizabeth Long, was born at Edgar Nebraska, March 30, 1873, and passed away at his home near Ong, Nebraska, Sunday, July 20, 1941, at the age of 68 years, 3 months and 20 days. He grew to manhood on a farm near Edgar Nebraska. He was married to Emma Crampton October 8, 1901. To this union was born three children: Roy, Earl and Melvin James. His wife passed away in July, 1909. After her death he was both father and mother to the sons. Later he was married to Nellie Spurger of Hastings, Nebraska. To this union was born one daughter, Opal June. His wife preceded him in death in November, 1924, After his wife passed away he continued to live on the farm with his daughter and gave her every parental care until she grew to womanhood Mr. Long was an early pioneer living near his birthplace his entire life. He had been in failing health since the year 1929. He is survived by his three sons, Roy of Forsyth, Missouri, Earl of Ronan, Montana, and Melvin James of Ashland, Nebraska, and his daughter, Mrs. Marvin Kruitzfield of Fairfield, Nebraska. Two sisters also survive, one of whom is Mrs. Henry Schmidt, who lives near Edgar, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Edgar Presbyterian Church, Wednesday, July 23, 1941, at 2:00 p.m., with John W. Kile, student pastor of the church in charge Singers were: J. G. Walley, J. Robert Olseene, Maxine Wolf and Gladys Hunter, who sang "Jesus Savior Pilot Me," "Some Time We'll Understand" and "Shall We Gather at the River." Pallbearers were: H. G. Springer, Ed. Bottom M. B.
