| Description | : | George was the 2nd of six children born to William Henderson Messenger and his 1st wife, Elizabeth Manville. His siblings: Eliza, James John, Grove (d.y.) Nicholas Clare and William Wallace. After his mother died in 1852, his father married Laura Abigail Thayer and they moved to Iowa County, Iowa in 1855 and later moved to Washington County, Iowa.
