Description	:	June 9, 1943 George W., youngest son of George and Priscilla Dillard, was born on a farm northeast of Spring Hill Aug. 15, 1874, and died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines May 30, 1943, at the age of 68 years, 9 months, and 15 days. Read More	June 9, 1943 George W., youngest son of George and Priscilla Dillard, was born on a farm northeast of Spring Hill Aug. 15, 1874, and died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines May 30, 1943, at the age of 68 years, 9 months, and 15 days. While in the hospital he underwent two major operations, but all during that time he was cheerful and optimistic. In June of 1920, following the death of her husband, his niece, Mrs. Mary F. Banks, came with her three small sons and they had made their home with him since that time. He had always shown a fatherly interest in the boys and helped care for them and educate them. Mug, as he was commonly known, lived his entire life in Warren county in the Greenbush neighborhood. He was a farmer and actively engaged in the management of his farm until he entered the hospital. He was a member of the Masonic lodge for many years. Surviving him, besides his niece, Mrs. Mary F. Banks of Spring Hill, and her sons, Ray and Bob of Los Angeles, Calif., and Howard of Indianola, are a number of other relatives and many friends. Mr. Dillard was a good friend and a dependable neighbor. He will be greatly missed in this community. Dillard [G.W.Dillard], 68, born and reared at Greenbush northwest of Indianola, died at the Methodist hospital Sunday afternoon following an operation performed two weeks ago. Services will be held Thursday, June 3, at 2 p.m. at the Spring Hill Methodist church, the Rev Grigsby officiating. Burial will be in the Webb cemetery. Mr. Dillard was injured several years ago but he took care of his farm [reference newsitem below dated December 4, 1902]. Mrs. Dollie Banks, a niece of Mr. Dillard, made her home with him. He is the last of his immediate family. He had never married. Two nephews from California are coming for the services. # # # December 4, 1902 The Advocate-Tribune Indianola, Iowa Spring Hill - On Monday morning, Nov. 24, Mug Dillard was seriously hurt while trying to catch a horse but he is slowly improving. He had thrown a lasso over its head and not letting go of the rope when the horse became unmanagable got one hand entangled in the rope. As the horse ran along the side of the barn Mr. Dillard's body struck the corner of the barn but was not released, but on turning the next corner his body was thrown under the approach which leads into the barn in such a manner that it suddenly checked the horse. If Pearl Gaey had not been present, so as to cut the rope, it might have been worse. # # # George Washington Dillard, Jr. is the son of George Washington (G.W.) and Priscilla (Dowell)Dillard. The senior Dillard's first wife, Mary Dowell, died and he returned to Indiana and married her sister, Priscilla. He and Priscilla had one son, Geo Washington Jr. A biography of G.W.
