Poppett Death early yesterday morning in San Bernardino claimed George Poppett, 84 year old resident of Big Bear and member of a prominent pioneer family identified with San Bernardino county for a century. Mr. Poppett had been a resident of Big Bear City since 1922, and when he suffered fainting and sinking spells early this week, his long-time friend Coy Brown took him down to a San Bernardino hospital where he passed away at 5 a.m. July 5. The elderly resident was a native son of San Bernardino, having been born in the family home on E street, Jan. 19, 1867. In later years he followed the trade of carpenter, though with his family he held interests in extensive properties, including Poppett Flats in the San Jacinto mountains. He claims a world of friends and relatives who were saddened by his passing. He is survived by a daughter, Hazel Bohn of San Francisco; a son, George Poppett of Oakland; sisters, Mrs. Wm. Hitchcock of Holcomb valley, and Mrs. Cleveland Martin, San Bernardino; four brothers, Grover, Morrison and Ed in San Bernardino, and Thurman in San Francisco. Survivors will be held Monday, 10 a.m. at Steven & Bobbitt’s Mortuary, with interment in Pioneer Cemetery in the family plot. Poppett, member of a pioneer San Bernardino family, died yesterday morning at a San Bernardino hospital. A native of San Bernardino, he was 84 years old. Mr. Poppett’s parents were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Poppett, early settlers of San Bernardino. he had been living in Big Bear the past few years. Survivors include one son, George, of San Francisco; one daughter, Hazel, of Oakland; four brothers, Ed, Orson, Grover and Thurman, all of San Bernardino; two sisters, Mrs. W. E. Hitchcock and Mrs. Cleveland Martin, both of San Bernardino. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Stephens & Bobbitt chapel. Interment will follow in Pioneer Memorial cemetery.
