Summers, 67, well-known retired farmer and carpenter, was fatally injured when struck by an automobile about 8 o'clock Sunday night while walking alon Route 40 near his home just west of the Catoctin Country Club. He died of a fractured skull en route to Frederick Memorial Hospital in the State Police ambulance. He sustained multiple injuries but the Frederick County medical Examiner attributed death to the fractured skull. State Police said the operator of the car was Merhl Hartsock, Myersville, Route 1, who was released pending further investigation. Sergt. W. W. Corbin and Trooper Arthur Rudy are conducting the investigation. Several Witnesses They said Mr. Summers was walking along the highway toward his home and several persons, who reported having seen the accident, were being interviewed. The victim was the son of the late Philip and Margaret Zimmerman Summers and was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran church, near Feagaville. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Wiles Summers, and two daughters, Miss Mary Ruth Summers and Mrs. Richard Hoffman, both at home; the following brothers and sisters: Joshua Summers, near this city; Samuel Summers, near Johnsville; Henry Summers, this city; Thomas Summers, near Frederick; Mrs. Melvin Oden, this city; Mrs. Howard U. Quinn, Pearl; Mrs Luther Stang, near this city; Mrs. Harry Krantz, Mountaindale, and Mrs. Margaret Main, Rocky Springs. One grandson also survives. The body is resting at the funeral home, 106 East church street, where friends may call after 7 o'clock this evening. The funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock. Interment will be in the Lutheran cemetery, Middletown. The family asks that flowers be omitted. M.R.
